Vincent Willem van Gogh (30 March 1853 – 29 July 1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist artist. His paintings and drawings include some of the world's best known, most popular and most expensive pieces.
Van Gogh spent his early adult life working for a firm of art dealers. After a brief spell as a teacher, he became a missionary worker in a very poor mining region. He did not embark upon a career as an artist until 1880. Initially, van Gogh worked only with sombre colours, until he encountered Impressionism and Neo-Impressionism in Paris. He incorporated their brighter colours and style of painting into a uniquely recognizable style, which was fully developed during the time he spent at Arles, France. He produced more than 2,000 works, including around 900 paintings and 1,100 drawings and sketches, during the last ten years of his life. Most of his best-known works were produced in the final two years of his life, during which time he cut off part of his left ear following a breakdown in his friendship with Paul Gauguin. After this he suffered recurrent bouts of mental illness, which led to his suicide.
The central figure in Van Gogh's life was his brother Theo, who continually and selflessly provided financial support. Their lifelong friendship is documented in numerous letters they exchanged from August 1872 onwards. Van Gogh is a pioneer of what came to be known as Expressionism. He had an enormous influence on 20th century art, especially on the Fauves and German Expressionists.

深具群眾魅力的巴基斯坦反對黨領袖、曾任總理的班娜姬．布托，二十七日在北部旁遮普省要塞城市拉瓦平第結束選舉造勢演說後短短數分鐘內，遭刺客開槍打中頸部與胸部，送醫後傷重不治。刺客行凶後還引爆炸藥，當場造成至少二十人慘死，現場屍橫遍野，血肉模糊。
布托的死訊為一月八日的大選投下震撼彈，預料未來數天可能出現大規模抗議與暴力衝突。穆沙拉夫總統在緊急會議中發表聲明，希望巴國維持和平，「擊退恐怖份子（影響局勢）的邪惡陰謀」。美、法、俄、印、伊朗等國相繼發表聲明，譴責這樁恐怖攻擊事件，聯合國安理會則表示將集會討論此事。但在區域情勢不穩的疑慮下，國際金價、油價應聲上漲，甫開盤的美國股市也因此下跌。布托遇刺後被立即送醫接受手術，但回天乏術。她的巴基斯坦人民黨同志坎恩在醫院表示，「她（布托）在晚間六時十六分斷氣。」

[CNN, BBC, AFP] ISLAMABAD, Pakistan-(Dec, 28,2007)- Benazir Bhutto died from a fractured skull caused by hitting her head on part of her car's sunroof as a bomb ripped through a crowd of her supporters, a spokesman for Pakistan's Interior Ministry said Friday.
"When she was thrown by the force of the shockwave of the explosion, unfortunately one of the levers of the sunroof hit her," said spokesman Brigadier Javed Iqbal Cheema.
The explanation is the latest from the Interior Ministry. It initially said Bhutto was killed by shots fired by the bomber, and then, via the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan, it said the cause of death was a shrapnel injury.
But Farzana Raja of Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party told CNN the government's explanation is "a pack of lies," she told CNN. Raja also accused the government of a "total security lapse."
At a news conference, Cheema showed images of Bhutto in a car, standing up through an open sunroof, looking out at the crowd as she was about to be driven away.
When the gunshots rang out and the explosion occurred, Bhutto "fell down or perhaps ducked" and apparently hit her head on a lever, Cheema said, adding that the lever was stained with blood. The blast killed at least 28 more people and at least 100 were wounded.

China "forced Miss Tibet to quit"【拒當中國人，西藏小姐甘願退賽】

The Tibetan entrant in an international beauty pageant in Malaysia has blamed China for her expulsion from the event.
Tsering Chungtak said that China pressured the competition organizers to replace her "Miss Tibet" sash with one reading "Miss Tibet-China".
When she refused, she claims, she was told she would have to leave the Miss Tourism Queen 2007 competition.

現年二十二歲的瓊塔克，是在新德裡印度記者俱樂部舉行的記者會中，作了上述表示。她說，在她參加馬來西亞「觀光小姐」選美活動八天之後，中國駐馬來西亞東部古晉地區的外交人員，突然施壓選美會強迫她改掛「中國西藏小姐」的肩帶，但她拒絕接受這樣的稱呼，只能選擇退出比賽一途。

太子建設公司於其「台南市、紐約57街」建案廣告不實罰120萬元
行政院公平交易委員會12/13日第840次委員會議決議，太子建設開發股份有限公司（下稱太子建設公司）於其「紐約57街」建案廣告宣稱「長300米寬25米林蔭大道，比台北敦南更綠，而且歸屬於社區私有」、以圖揭「林蔭大道上應設置中央分隔島」等內容，就商品內容為虛偽不實及引人錯誤之表示，違反公平交易法第21條第1項規定，爰處新臺幣120萬元罰鍰。　　
公平會表示，太子建設公司於「紐約57街」廣告宣稱「長300米寬25米林蔭大道，比台北敦南更綠，而且歸屬於社區私有」等內容，惟查系爭廣告內容中，並未指明該「林蔭大道」係單指可供公眾通行計劃通路之「育德一街」，實則其尚包含臨街二側之綠化空地，故僅據系爭廣告內容說明，要難合理期待一般消費者能認識該「林蔭大道」係指已供公眾通行之計畫道路。系爭廣告使用「歸屬於社區私有」、「私家林蔭大道」等文字，既謂「私有」、「私家」，則實有「排它性」之使用權或所有權意旨，核足使一般消費者產生「林蔭大道」為具有「排它性」領域之認知，而致使陷於錯誤。　　
公平會復指出，「紐約57街」廣告圖示「林蔭大道上應設置中央分隔島」部分，據太子建設公司表示，係因道路交通法令之限制，致使該公共設施已無施作可能，惟查太子建設公司乃專業之建築業者，對於規劃施作之公共設施，本應有詳加審慎評估及詢問相關法令之義務，其於未查悉得否施做中央分隔島前，即於系爭廣告圖示「林蔭大道應設置中央分隔島」，足認該圖示核屬虛偽不實及引人錯誤之表示，俱違反公平交易法第21條第1項規定。經審酌太子建設公司違法行為之動機、目的及預期之不當利益；違法行為對交易秩序之危害程度；違法行為危害交易秩序之持續期間；因違法行為所得利益；事業之規模、經營狀況及其市場地位；違法類型曾否經中央主管機關導正或警示；以往違法類型、次數、間隔時間及所受處罰；違法後悛悔實據及配合調查等態度；與其他因素後，論處該公司新臺幣120萬元之罰鍰。(資料來源:行政院公平交易委員會)
