UNEP Goodwill Ambassador Gisele Bundchen, supported by a global chorus of real people, brings the WED 2010 message of action to the world.
The world Environment day is celebrated every year on the 5th of June to increase worldwide awareness of environmental issues and to help motivate both individual and political action towards conservation. The United Nations General Assembly established World Environment Day in 1972 to commemorate the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. On the same day, the General Assembly created the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), which is now the United Nations’ principal agency for environmental action. Today, WED is celebrated in over more than 100 countries and the list is growing yearly.

The theme of WED 2010 is “Many Species. One Planet, One Future.” The United Nations have declared the year 2010 as the International Year for biodiversity and encouraged the participation of different organization and individuals to raise awareness of the importance of conserving biodiversity for human well being and promote understanding of the economic value of biodiversity.
